Porcelain face Toby jug of the Shakespearean character Falstaff by early 20th century artist Henry Giffin. Excellent condition. No chips or cracks. Note holes/bubbles that appear to be part of the creation process because there is glaze over them. See last three photos.
Toby jugs originated in the 18th century from the Staffordshire potteries in England. Jugs that depict a human figure or the head and shoulders of a person are referred to as Toby Jugs.
