A beautiful vintage Japanese Satsuma lidded trinket or jewelry box. The box is exquisitely hand-painted with a traditional peacock and floral motif, featuring two peacocks (kujaku) amidst chrysanthemums and cherry blossoms. It is decorated with raised moriage enamel for a three-dimensional texture and highlighted with extensive gold gilt. The piece has significant crazing which is artfully distributed and aged, adding to its authentic character and overall aesthetic. No chips or cracks noted, very good vintage condition.
This round box is the perfect size for holding small treasures on a dresser or vanity. The bottom is marked "Art Satsuma Japan." This is a lovely example of Japanese export ware, likely dating to the early-to-mid 20th century (Taisho/Showa period).
