This giant hydroelectric power plant of the Philadelphia Electric Company System, located in Maryland on the Susquehanna River, is an outstanding example of the development of natural water power by an investor-owned utility company.
It is an important part of Philadelphia Electric service to some 3,800,000 people in an area of 2346 square miles in southeastern Pennsylvania and northeastern Maryland.
The great man-made, 14-mile-long lake at Conowing holds over 100 billion gallons of water, drained from about half of Pennsylvania, one-eighth of New York State, and a small part of Maryland.
