The Wet Cell Kit represents an excellent opportunity to help your student create an experiment for the upcoming science fair - or – students in your class to practice the steps of the Scientific Method this year.

Students will be able to use the Wet Cell Kit while using the scientific method to investigate which liquid (electrolyte) will produce the most current.

A wet cell is a container which uses two dissimilar metals (copper and zinc) to produce an electrical current in the presenceof acids such as lemon juice, salt water, vinegar and water, and even sauerkraut.

When the acid is added to the container, the zinc electrode and the acid react to create electrons which collect on the surface of the zinc metal. The zinc metal gets a negative charge while the copper electrode receives a positive charge.

When the zinc and copper are connected by a wire, electrons from the negative zinc electrode push each other through the wire to the positive copper electrode creating an electrical c
