Peg hadn't realized the corridor was so LONG. It looked as though it was longer than the house itself. And Peg knew it might be. She wasnt one of those stupid people who went around saying things were impossible. She'd never done that, and certainly after coming to work for The Emeritus she'd driven the word 'impossible' from her vocabulary. You only had to live thru one time stop and re-set to know that pretty much anything was possible.

That didn't make it easier to deal with the weirdness, though. Mostly she'd gotten used to the time stops, especially after her affair with Thomas had heated up. But there was still plenty that happened around the house which she tried not to think about.

Like the Vanishing People. Or the Inside Out Room. But those could be avoided, as could Blue Fire and that acid smoke that evaporated flesh. The Emeritus had some salve he would use if you were hurt too badly. But he clearly resented using it...
