“William Hogarth (10 Nov 1697–26 Oct 1764) was an English painter, engraver, satirist, cartoonist and writer. His work ranges from realistic portraiture to comic strip-like series of pictures called "modern moral subjects.” Familiarity with his work is so widespread that satirical political illustrations in this style are often referred to as "Hogarthian.”
“William Hogarth created a suite of six engravings based on Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote. These engravings, completed between 1738 and 1756, depict scenes from the famous novel, showcasing Hogarth's talent for visual storytelling and character portrayal. The engravings were initially commissioned for a Spanish edition of Don Quixote in 1726, but the project was delayed and the illustrations were eventually published separately.“
