Category

Country and Denomination: Switzerland, 5 Francs.
Year and Mint Mark: 1968, with a "B" mintmark indicating it was struck at the Bern Mint.
Design - Obverse: Features a hooded male figure representing an alpine herdsman (often mistakenly identified as William Tell). The legend "CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA" is inscribed above.
Design - Reverse: Displays the Coat of Arms of Switzerland, surrounded by flower wreaths. The value "5 FR." and the date "1968" are also present.
Composition: This specific 1968 issue of the 5 Franc coin was transitioned from silver to a copper-nickel alloy (75% copper, 25% nickel) due to a silver shortage and illegal melting of lower denomination silver coins. Earlier 5 Franc coins of similar design were silver.
Collectibility: While not extremely rare due to a relatively high mintage, well-preserved examples in Uncirculated (UNC) condition are sought after by collectors of Swiss coinage.
